Lab Administration
Dr. Cynthia Farthing is the Director of the Mathematics Tutorial Laboratory. She graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics from Hiram College in 1999. Cindy earned her Ph.D. in 2005 from the University of Iowa. Before returning to Iowa City, Cindy worked at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and Creighton University.
Chris Forbes is the Math Lab Assistant Director. He began in Fall 2003. He is a 1993 graduate of the University of Iowa, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, and a minor in Business Administration. He has additional schooling toward Mathematics Teaching Certification from the University of Northern Iowa. He lives on the east side of Iowa City, with his wife and three children. Chris has worked in the fields of Test Development and Software & Network Support with previous employers, and has Microsoft Certifications for Windows NT 4.0 Server and Workstation. He aspires to someday run his own custom chopper shop. Chris enjoys golf and softball, and is an avid football fan each fall. To keep his mind fresh, he can often be seen solving crosswords or other puzzles.
Tutors
The tutors in the Math Lab are graduate students. To see a picture of a particular tutor, look for him or her in the department directory and click on the name. The tutors are ready and able to aid students in their efforts. Students can ask any tutor on duty for help, or they can seek out their own TA. With such a variety of tutors working, students can find someone with whom they can learn.
