College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Scholarship Competition for 2008-2009

The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights is pleased to announce the establishment of its Human Rights Internship Program. It provides funding of up to $2500 for selected students who have secured a summer internship with a non-governmental organization or government agency engaged in human rights activities. The Iowa City Noon Rotary Club International will award a $2500 scholarship for study abroad for the academic year 2006-2007. Deadline is December 21, 2005. This is open to sophomores through graduate students WHO GRADUATED FROM A JOHNSON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AND WITH ONE OR MORE PARENT'S WHOSE LEGAL RESIDENCE IS WITHIN THE AREA SERVED BY THE IOWA CITY NOON ROTARY CLUB.

The Program for University Librarians in the Sciences is looking for individuals with undergraduate or graduate degrees in the sciences who wish to become academic librarians.

NSF Undergraduate Scholoarship for Science in Information Assurance at Iowa State University

Air Force ROTC Scholarships available.The Express Scholarship pays full tuition and fees, $510 annually for books, and $250-$400 tax-free monthly. Qualifications include being a US citizen, being a full-time student in certain technical majors such as Math, CS, chemistry, physics or engineering, and meeting certain other requirements including age and physical requirements. AMS sponsored Math in Moscow scholarship. Deadline for Spring semester is September 30, for Fall semester deadline is April 15

University of Iowa VIGRE Heartland REU Summer 2007

Thanks to the NSF VIGRE project of the Math Department, there will be a Summer REU here in our department from June 4 to July 27, 2007. A participant will receive a stipend $2,000, room & board in UI  dormitory, along with an amount for travel and supplies if needed. Approximately six UI students will be selected for the summer REU along with twelve students from Heartland Partnership colleges in Iowa and nearby states, and a number of students in the AGEP/Alliance partnership. Likely, the topics will be Linear Algebra, Graph Theory, and Orthogonal Polynomials (each participant will work on one topic). Applicants need to have at least Calculus II. Due to the NSF restriction, only US citizens or permanent residents are eligible to be supported for the Summer REU. Math in Moscow scholarships. Spend a semester at the Independent University of Moscow; funded by the NSF. Deadline for fall semesters is April 15, for spring semesters it is September 30.

Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth
We are seeking enthusiastic math and computer science instructors and teaching assistants to instruct in our summer programs for gifted elementary, middle, and high school students. CTY offers intense, 3-week academic programs for highly talented students from across the country and around the world.
Where:
Residential site locations around the country: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. Day site locations in the Baltimore-Washington and Los Angeles areas.
When:
Session 1: June 21-July 14
Session 2: July 14-August 4
Instructors and teaching assistants can work one or two sessions.
Salary:
Instructors start at $1,970 to $2,970 per 3-week session.
Teaching assistants earn $1,050 per 3-week session.
Room and board is provided at our residential sites.

The SMALL Undergraduate Research Project at Williams College, MA. Date: June 11--August 11, 2007. Participating students receive a stipend of $3,150. Date: June 30--August 4, 2007
This is a five-week intensive program for mathematically- talented undergraduate women (US citizen or permanent resident only) who are completing their junior year and may be contemplating graduate study in the mathematical sciences. Sixteen women will be selected.
Each will receive a travel allowance, campus room and board, and a stipend of $1,500.
Application deadline: March 1, 2007.
