Charles Frohman His interests lie in the topology, geometry and representation theory of 3-manifolds. This includes minimal surfaces, Heegaard splittings, skein modules, lattice gauge field theory, and quantum invariants. Home Page
Richard Randell His interests are in the topology of varieties and singularites, arrangements of hyperplanes, and piecewise-linear knot theory. A particular focus is in the topology of configuration spaces. Home Page
Dennis Roseman His interests are in the area of geometric topology , especially in dimensions that are small but more than 3, such as knotted surfaces in 4-space and knot energies for these. An associated interest is design and implementation of software for calculations and visualizations for such problems. In addition he is the author of a new text, Elementary Topology . To appear in late 1998, Prentice Hall. Home Page
Jonathan Simon His interests include knot theory and knot energies, physical knots, e.g. DNA or other polymers, stereochemical topology, e.g. topological chirality, and topology of 3-dimensional manifolds. Home Page
Ying-Qing Wu His research interests are in the area of geometric topology and low-dimensional manifolds ; in particular, 3-manifolds and knot theory . In recent year, he has been working on problems concerning Dehn surgery on knots and links, 2-handle additions, and incompressible surfaces in 3-manifolds . Home Page
Programs
Ming A computer program which minimizes MD-energy of knots. Here are some examples of pictures of knots with minimal MD energy.
Knot Editor Written by Kenny Hunt, this program allows the user to create, visualize, and manipulate polygonal knots.
Knot Thickness Page This page provides background information for the ideas of smooth thickness and rope length, and shows example data from a program written by Eric Rawdon.
hew Written by Dennis Rosman with Josh Berdine this program allows the user visualize, and manipulate knotted surfaces in 4-space, and to some extent knotted 3-manifolds in 5-space.
Knot Table This page shows some of the work on edge number of knots done by Monica Meissen.
