I assume that your machine is connected to the
Internet. In order to use ftp to transfer files 
from my machine to your machine,  when you are 
logged in perform the following procedure:

(1) ftp cs.uiowa.edu
(2) user name: anonymous
(3) password: your login name
(4) cd /space/ftp/pub/rus
(5) cd "Directory of interest in /space/ftp/pub/rus"
(6) bin
(7) prompt
(8) mget *
(9) quit

This allows you to move everything from my public directory
called you selected into your directory keeping the names of files 
thus moved. If you want to move file by file then replace (8)
by (8') get filename.
