| Sonya Kovalevski Day | April 5, 2008 | This is a national event at which we commemorate the life and achievements of Sonya Kovalevski, one the first, and most prolific, female mathematicians. We use this day as an opportunity to encourage high school girls to go into math. Several math-clubbers volunteered - helping to make paper cranes and discussing the geometry of folding with the students, or making awsome fractles. The event was atended by over 150 girls, making it a huge success! |
| Iowa Intercoligate Mathematics Competition | March 8th, 2008. Drake University. | We took two teams of students and spent three hours doing math problems. Fun was had, math was done, and Professor Drumeric bought us ice cream! The results are not yet listed. |
| Mathematical Contest in Modeling | February 14th, 2008. | MCM is a national, 96 hour competition in mathematical modeling. This was the University of Iowa's first time. We created five teams of three people. Four of the teams got honerable mention, and the fifth got a Meritorious - the second highest possible score. Plans are already under way to participate again next year! |
| Math Club-Thai Flavor Fund Drive. | November 12th, 2007. Thai Flavor. | Funds were raised, Thai food was served, and nerdy math cards were placed on all the tables. We made a grand total of $119.00 - a sum which is certainly worthy of at least three exclmation marks. Here they are: !!! |
| Organization Meeting | September 5th, 2007. Muhly Lounge. | We finalized meeting times and formats and discussed possible events for the Fall 2007 semester. |
| Science Clubs Open House | August 30th, 2007. 302 Schaeffer Hall. | Many student organizations were present during the open house: ACM, Actual Science Club, and more, including yours truly, the Math Club. Luke and Danielle were there to talk about the Math Club. |
| Iowa Intercollegiate Math Competition | March 10th, Grinnell College | The competition went well; we played a lot of Set. Talk to Professor Durumeric to see the competition results. |
