To M13 Students - Please note the following. (I expect to post a Course Description and detailed Schedule over the weekend, but meanwhile I want to make sure that you are aware of the following important information, especially the plans for next week.) 1. Your first class is Tuesday Jan 20 (in"Discussion" sections). This will be the first of a two-day review of some basic algebra that you should be comfortable with as pre-requisite for the course. On Wednesday Jan 21 (in "Lecture"), we will continue the algebra review, and on Thursday Jan 22 (in "Discussion sections) you will have a quiz on this kind of material. (The quiz will count the same weight as regular homework-based quizzes during the semester.) We want help make sure that students taking this course have appropriate background. This quiz will give you very quick feedback on that. Here is a copy of the "are you ready" quiz that we gave last year: 2. The room for "Lecture" (MWF 1:30) is LR1 VAN (the low part of the Physics building on Iowa Ave) Earlier in the fall, there was a different lecture hall listed for our class, but the University had to swap rooms. (`Because of the flood...') 3. Note that ISIS lists our class also meeting Mondays 5:30-7:30 for exams. This is only intended for our two midterm exams: Monday Feb 23 and Monday April 13 Unless we are forced for some reason to change the date(s) of our midterm exam(s), I have no plans for any required activities on other Monday evenings. The midterm exams will be in room W10 PBB 4. The Final Exam is Wed May 13, 7:30-9:30 A.M., in our regular room LR1 VAN. (I also don't like getting up for a 7:30 exam, but we're all tough and can handle it.)(And we have no choice in Final Exam times.) I hope this information is helpful. If you know other students taking our class, please pass this on. Thanks very much. Jonathan Simon
