2. The text for the course is "Precalculus" by Larson and Hostetler, 7th edition
 (Special edition for the University of Iowa).


Following up on my earlier message(s), here is a more detailed plan for this week.

On Tuesday (in Discussion sections) and Wednesday (in Lecture) we will do a very quick review of some of the material that the you should be reasonably comfortable with, viewing this material as prerequisite for the course. I want to give you an early chance to decide if you are properly prepared for this course.  

You will have a quiz this Thursday (in Discussion), with problems taken from the [long] list of problems below. Typically (this applies also to our Midterm exams and Final) I will take a problem right from the text and just change some of the numbers. The quiz will count the same as any of our regular homework-based quizzes. 

SO....

Here are the sections in the "Appendix" that starts our text. The sections are numbered A.1, A.2, etc; and the pages are numbered like A8, A20, etc.  Within each section, I have indicated problems that can be used for the practice/review (the list is very long - I often just indicated whole blocks of problems, from which we  can pick a few to work on. During the semester, when I assign "regular" homework, I will try to be quite selective, never *assigning* e.g. "all the problems on page 99". But for this review, I just tried to specify blocks of problems that relate to particular topics.)

Problems for the quiz on Thursday will be drawn from these listed below (with the usual plan to change some of the numbers).
