About Me

To start things off, my middle name is actually Christoher and not Christopher due to a typo on my birth certificate and my appreciation of the uniqueness it gives an otherwise common name. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Iowa in the Department of Applied Mathematical and Computational Sciences.  I'm working towards a Ph. D. by applying mathematics to Quantum Physics ground state problems.  This is my sixth year here in Iowa, and I hope to finish in the spring of 2009.  I earned my B.A. degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where I studied math, physics, chemistry and psychology.

My office is in room 225N MacLean Hall. Find MacLean Hall

Math Modeling Contest at Iowa

For the first time in our history, The University of Iowa entered teams in this year's Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) run by COMAP. I was one of seven math graduate students that helped mentor undergraduates and helped prepare them for the four day contest in early February. The results are in, and every Iowa team took home at least an Honorable Mention distinction (top 50%) with one group even receiving Meritorious (top 14%)! It was an incredible showing for a first effort. With a year of experience under our belts and the undergraduates that I worked with (Miller Li, Boanne MacGregor, and Luke Wassink) still around for 2009, we hope to improve upon the Honorable Mention showing.
