Information for graduate students
I co-organize a professional development seminar for graduate students, with Heather Molle and Amanda Watkins. We generally meet every other Tuesday from 4:30-5:20 in B11 MacLean Hall. Anyone with burning questions or good topics (things you answered yourself through brute force and suffering) should drop us an email and tell us about them.
| Date | Title | Speakers |
| Sept. 16 | Show me the money: finding funding for first-years to finishing students | |
| Sept. 30 | Am I good enough...? | Panel: Amanda Hager, Candice Price, Sam Schmidt |
| Oct. 14 | Creating a webpage for mathematicians | Will Hager |
| Oct. 28 | Learning styles for teachers and students | Julianna Tymoczko |
| Nov. 11 | How to write math | Panel: Art Kirk, Paul Muhly, and Jon Simon |
| Dec. 2 | Goals for grad school | Postponed until spring |
I collect essays and links on various issues of interest, loosely inspired by topics in the seminar. If there's something you'd like but can't find, let me know. If there's something I missed or got wrong, I'd like to hear that, too.
- Finding funding (applying is a separate question!)
- Creating and editing webpages at UIowa (written by Will Hager)
