The mathematics faculty supports the creation of the new three-hour math course
22M:006 Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers as proposed in the attached
document. It is the understanding of the mathematics faculty that this course
will be a requirement of all Elementary Education majors who do not have a math
specialization. And it will be open to other students interested in the course
who have the necessary mathematics prerequisites.
2.
The mathematics faculty supports and endorses the assignment of QFR credit to
this new mathematics course 22M:006 Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers.
3.
The mathematics faculty supports the creation of the new three-hour math course
22M:012 Theory of Arithmetic as proposed in the attached document as a
replacement for 22M:004 Theory of Arithmetic. 22M:012 will be part of the
degree requirement courses for the Elementary Education majors with a math
specialty. The mathematics faculty supports and endorses the assignment of QFR
credit to this new math course 22M:012 Theory of Arithmetic.
These
proposals were unanimously approved by the Department of Mathematics faculty on
April 15, 2003.
NOTE: The
UGC voted ‘yes’,
that is, in support of the motions described, in the three questions posed
above on 2/24/03.
