GRADING:

If your school can bring an extra staff member to assist with grading, or if you can assist with grading, that would be a great help to us.
Grading will take place in VAN ALLEN 301 (and if necessary also 309 VAN ALLEN ).  We will use our University of Iowa helpers to bring completed tests to the grading room. We will provide solution keys for all events in the competition, as well as scoring sheets for recording grades.  We will provide snacks for graders in the morning and also lunch in the coffee room off 301 VAN for graders. Previously we had to keep grading through lunch to get everything done by 2 pm.  PLEASE HAVE GRADERS BRING CALCULATORS FOR COMPILING SCORES.

The Iowa Mathematics League (Project Manager Mary Friedrich, Department of Mathematics, University of Northern Iowa, mary.friedrich@uni.edu) has been using the  guidelines given below for its High School Mathematics competitions. The University of Iowa High School Mathematics Competitions will employ these guidelines.

SCHOOL SIZE CLASSIFICATIONS:

The following information comes from the GPML rules web page
http://mathleague.org/hsrules.php
School size: In every state in which mathleague.org sponsors contests, the following school size classifications apply: Any school with an average enrollment per grade level of 250 students or more per grade, as well as any school with a selective admissions process, must compete as a large school. Any school with fewer than 250 enrolled students per grade and which does not employ selective admissions criteria can be considered a small school. Any school which would otherwise be classified as a small school may voluntarily reclassify itself as a large school for the remainder of the school year by registering at any mathleague.org tournament as a large school. mathleague.org may interpret any such registration as intent to reclassify, causing that school to be required to compete in the large school classification at all subsequent mathleague.org events that school year. For purposes of this section selective admissions describes any school which, at any point over the last four years, has declined to enroll any student for any set of reasons that directly or indirectly relates to the student's academic performance or potential, or which has currently in place a set of admissions policies or standards that would allow this to happen.

TEAM SIZES:

Large school teams consist of six students, while small school teams consist of three students. In the "Relay Round" all teams are composed of three students.  Within each of the large and small school divisions, teams composed of Juniors and Seniors compete against each other in the "Varsity" category, while teams composed of students in grade 10 or lower compete against each other in the "Junior Varsity" category. Schools may bring more than one team if they wish.
