Braids and links in dimension four

    Seiichi Kamada
( Click here for pdf version )

Braid theory and knot theory are related to each other via the Alexander and Markov theorem. This situation is generalized into dimension four; namely the theories of $2$-dimensional braids and $2$-dimensional knots (or knotted surfaces) in $4$-space. I will give an introduction to this and discuss some of recent results in this field.
